The Sun
The Sun is the center of our solar system and the brightest star in our universe. It depicts a person’s core self and ability to assert oneself. The Sun, which is a masculine force, rules your ego, your will, your pride, your determination, your heart, your health and vitality, public recognition you receive for work well done, your sense of purpose, and motivation for future goals. This planet also determines how others view you, especially men who hold a big place in your life, no matter the type of relationship.
The Sun takes one year to move through all twelve constellations (signs) of the zodiac. The Sun guards the heart. It is the ruler of the sign of Leo.
The Moon
The Moon represents feelings, emotions, and the basic tone of a person, as well as instincts, intuition, reactions, private life, and your home. It rules the important women in your life, such as your mother, wife, boss, girlfriend, etc. The moon also rules your roots and history. Females especially are affected by moon cycles, and that can be shown in their menstrual cycle. The moon also rules the sign of Cancer, the womb, stomach, breasts, and moonlight.
The moon takes 2–3 days per sign each month and takes 28 days to get through all of the signs.
Mercury
Mercury represents common sense, communication skills, learning, intellectual style, perception, writing, editing, research, speaking, and rational thoughts. The sign and house where Mercury lives in a person’s birth chart truly depicts their style of processing and giving out information.
Mercury also rules relationships with siblings, appointments, maps, travel plans, vehicles, advertising, sales, public relations, and telecommunications. Mercury takes 13 or 14 days to transit a zodiac sign and goes retrograde three or four times per year.
Mars
Mars represents action, energy, drive, courage, impulse, assertiveness, passion, stamina, fire, combustible energy, and aggression. It is the ruler of Aries and the co-ruler of Scorpio. When Mars energy is used properly it can help people achieve great things; if used negatively things can reach a heated critical point.
Mars takes two years to fully transit the entire zodiac and stays in each sign for about six weeks.
Jupiter
Jupiter rules good fortune, expansion, opportunities, justice, purpose, luck, wealth, financial gain, reflection, study, encouragement of higher education, and faith. Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Sagittarius & Pisces.
It takes a whole year to transit each sign of the zodiac, taking twelve years to circle the entire zodiac.
Saturn
Saturn represents the father figure, discipline, limitations, the conscience, permanence, tangible rewards, productivity, delays, restrictions, responsibility, rules, pain, fear, authority figures, control, denial, morality, laws, and rules.
Saturn takes about 29 years to transit the entire zodiac, staying roughly 2.5 years in each sign.
Uranus
Uranus is the planet of the future, new technology, inventions, electricity, innovation, scientific genius, radical change, rebellion, independence, shock, unexpected occurrences, sudden insights and inspiration, and the new and unusual.
Uranus rules astrology and the sign of Aquarius. It takes about 84 years to circle the entire zodiac.
Neptune
Neptune represents inspiration, spirituality, dreams, the subconscious, illusions, fantasies, magic, enchantment, self-sacrifice, photography, film, ballet, the arts, music, painting, poetry, and all bodies of water.
Neptune rules Pisces and takes approximately 146 years to transit the entire zodiac.
Pluto
Pluto rules definite change, beginnings, endings, metamorphosis, rebirth, regeneration, power, obsessions, compulsions, crisis, life and death.
Pluto takes 246 years to transit the entire zodiac and rules the sign of Scorpio.
Venus
Venus is the planet of beauty, love, finances, affection, cosmetic surgery, makeup, a person’s love life, pleasure, gifts, fashion, adornment, fine art, material gain, allure, magnetism, seduction of a lover, and charm.
Venus rules the signs of Libra and Taurus.
